He's Still with Us

My father in law passed away last May, a couple of days after my husband'sfiftieth birthday. Although his health had been deteriorating, we hadn'texpected to lose him so suddenly.

Pop was a kind and humorous man. He loved his family and enjoyed holidays andespecially celebrating birthdays with his family. His favorite baseball team wasthe New York Yankees and he loved to watch them on TV, as does our entirefamily.

On July third, our family was at my mother in law's home to celebrate herbirthday. This was her first birthday without Pop after fifty four years ofmarriage. During her birthday party, my husband found a Yankees game was on TVand he put the game on. The TV's volume was at medium level and couldn't beheard in the kitchen, where the party was.

After several hours of watching the game and celebrating the birthday, wedecided to leave for home. My husband, two children, and I said our good byes toeveryone in the kitchen, proceeded through the TV room, and out the front door.

As we were stepping onto the front porch, the TV's volume started to blast theYankees game. My husband ran back into the TV room and my sister in law cameinto the room from the kitchen to find out what happened. No one was in the TVroom or near the remote to change the volume. However, my husband had to turndown the TV with the remote control. We know it was Pop letting us know that hewas still with us.
