The unlimited use of cars may cause many problems. What are those problems? In order to reduce the problems, should we discourage people to use cars?

The fast increase in the number of cars have brought along many related problems which are well worth our greatest attention.

First of all, urban traffic is getting from bad to worse. I’d like to cite my own experience as an example. Five years ago, it took me about 30 minutes to drive from home to office. One year later, I needed to spend about 40 minutes on the way. Then two years later, I had to start out from home at least 1 hour earlier in order to get to my office on good time for work. And then, since last year, it has just been too normal for me to spend about one and half hours to make it. The traffic just moves like a worm!

Second, with the ever growing number of cars, air quality in urban areas is deteriorating with each passing day. We used to see clear blue sky and breathe fresh air, but now this would be a real luxury. Car exhaust has seriously polluted the air and people’s health is greatly endangered. It seems certain that we human beings have already made a fatal mistake that could only be remedied by bringing down the number of cars hugely.

Sure, we can not deny the fact that cars have brought us speed, comfort and greater mobility. However, these have already been history. We are suffering much more from cars than benefiting from them. Our health conditions are going down rapidly both due to the polluted air that we have to breathe every second and our lack of exercise as a result of the ever increasing amount of time we have to spend behind the wheel!

What can we do? From the foregoing discussion, I’m sure we have already found a solution: to discourage people to use cars! I know very well that science and technology are also developing very fast and there might be better solutions coming up in the future, but, before that, let’s first salvage ourselves in such a passive way!

In most parts of the world, the volume of traffic is growing at analarming rate. In the form of an assignment, discuss about the main trafficproblems in your country, their causes and possible solutions.

范文:The progress of transport industry is inevitable and undeniable. What isunder controversy is whether the volume of traffic is growing at an alarmingrate. To be frank, I am in high favor that we are well aware of the trafficproblem.

In my point of view, a possible cause of the problem is that we lack theinfrastructure construction. Also the overpopulation is the cause of thisproblem, especially in China. Although the growth of the transport is rapid, itstill can not meet the increasing needs of people. Furthermore, people abuse theprivate cars to take public transport instead, which caused more cars put intouse. Lastly, individuals are also responsible for this problem. People arelacking in consciousness and awareness for traffic situation in order.Sometimes, people drive after drinking, which causes more traffic accidents.

The solution, I think, is for government to inject more funds into theconstruction of infrastructure, increase more construction, such as therestructuring of metro system, elevated ways, Pearl line, and superhighway. Alsogovernment should levy heavy tax on luxurious products, and encourage people touse bus service instead of private cars. To individuals, we may establish thefamily planning to control the growth of the population. Furthermore, we shouldpublicize the importance of obeying the traffic regulations among people byeducation, and form the civil health lifestyle.

To conclude, with the joint effort of people and governments, I am sure thetraffic problems will be improved.

The bar chart compares the number of incidents and injuries for every 100 million passenger miles travelled on five different types of public transport in 2002.

It is clear that the most incidents and injuries took place on demand-response vehicles. By contrast, commuter rail services recorded by far the lowest figures.

A total of 225 incidents and 173 injuries, per 100 million passenger miles travelled, took place on demand-response transport services. These figures were nearly three times as high as those for the second highest category, bus services. There were 76 incidents and 66 people were injured on buses.

Rail services experienced fewer problems. The number of incidents on light rail trains equalled the figure recorded for buses, but there were significantly fewer injuries, at only 39. Heavy rail services saw lower numbers of such events than light rail services, but commuter rail passengers were even less likely to experience problems. In fact, only 20 incidents and 17 injuries occurred on commuter trains.(165 words, band 9)

The traffic congestion issue has long been a public concern especially in some large cities worldwide. Whether governments should be involved in solving this problem has triggered a heated controversy. It is true that government intervention can bring some benefits to some extent, it is opposed by some people though.

Undoubtedly, governments posses greater authority than any other parties in the society, which means their intervention is comparatively effective. For example, the implement of congestion tax can directly lead to the deadline of traffic during those rush hours because of the increasing driving cost. Another advantage of government intervention is that governments can impact the public to a wider extent. Unlike some actions taken by the social communities, large companies or individuals, the projects carried out by governments have restrictions on every citizen living in the city or country. Once the traffic congestion is reduced, there will be many positive effects followed by, for instance, the commuting time can be largely reduced for those who need to travel to and from work.

On the other hand, the extra tax raised by the government will impose a negative effect on some people. One potential group influenced by this policy are those who have to drive to and from work. If this measure comes into effect, the financial burden on them is definitely higher. As a result, the well-being of these people may experience a deadline, which is against the aim of government policies.

In conclusion, benefits and drawbacks co-exits in terms of this tax policy. It can effectively solve the traffic problems to a large extent, while some damages can be caused to those who are taxed especially in the financial way.
