雅思写作考试范文(一)

Some people believe that people who read books can develop more imagination and language skills than those who prefer to watch TV. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

范文:

People can entertain themselves in multiple ways. They can read books, surf the Internet, listen to music or watch TV. Many consider that the individuals who often read are better in language skills and creative capabilities like imagination than those who prefer to watch TV. To a certain extent, I am in favor of this argument.

Obviously, when one is reading, he can come across thousands of words and hundreds of grammar points in a very short time. Then he will be required to comprehend the meaning of the words, collocations and sentence structures. Sometimes when he is faced with some unknown words or has no idea about what the paragraph is about, he will be forced to take a guess, which is necessary for language acquisition and use. By contrast, when a person watches TV, what attracts him is just the changing pictures presented on the screen and he is less likely to pay enough attention to the subtitles or the background voices, as a consequence, he can hardly improve his language skills. When he has something to say, he may feel the idea is just at the tip of his tongue, but he can barely describe his mind in his own words.

In addition, those who read for pleasure often have to imagine in order to understand the world the words create especially when there are no illustrations. Therefore, the more they read, the better their imagination becomes and the sharper their mind gets. Those who sit in front of TV all day, however, do not have to imagine as often as those who read for pleasure because the pictures on the screen tell them everything they want to know.

In conclusion, watching TV can undoubtedly present knowledge in a much vivid way, but reading is more beneficial. If you want to improve your language skills and imagination, doing more reading is a much better choice.

Today advertising can be seen everywhere in daily life. It has influenced what people think is important and sometimes has negative effects on people’s life. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

范文:

Nowadays we cannot go anywhere without seeing advertisements of one kind or another. The penetration of advertising into our life has gone so far that sometimes we even feel amazed by its ubiquity. Advertising is, of course, very useful, informing us about what to buy, where to buy and how to buy, but it also has negative effects, especially bytransforming what we regard as important in our life.

Surrounded by advertisements, we can easily be led to a belief that our life is all about buying things. This widespread consumerism can persuade us into buying many things we do not really need on the one hand, and make us less content with what we have on the other, andcrave hopelessly for those unattainable commodities. I still remember a few days ago when walking in front of a supermarket, I saw how a little girl, with her eyes glued to an advertising board, pestered her mother for the expensive toy on it that her mother apparently could not afford. Advertising, then, while providing us with useful commodities information, also creates the unwanted desire at our heart and makes us unhappy.

Meanwhile, lured by the promises of advertising, some people may choose to commit crimes, which then causes a lot of social problems. A student, for instance, may rob his classmate of an iPhone 8, for he has been told by advertising that iPhone 8 is superior to its previous versions. Likewise, an official may take bribery to buy an expensive house by the lake because the advertising says the luxury of living there is superb.

Seen in this light, advertising can affect our way of thinking about life and we, therefore, should be cautious about its negative influences while enjoying the benefits it brings us.

话题为:In the past, lectures were used as a way of teaching large numbers of student, but now with the development of technology for education, many people think there is no justification for attending lectures. To what extent do you agree or disagree?大学讲座授课的教育方式在现代科技发展下,很多人认为已经没有存在的合理性。你在某种程度上同意或是不同意呢?

范文:

Teaching is the transfering of information from one to another. But now new technologies are being introduced to teach large number of students at the same time. I will discuss in detail why I feel the right combination of these two bring wonderful results.

Education mould the individual and shape the character of a person. Teachers are professionals, who are trained to handle the students. They are not only impart academic knowledge but also moral values. Besides, they know the strength and weakness of each student and teach them accordingly, including special attention to poor academic pupils. Furthermore, for students, teacher is not only a person who help them in their studies, but also, a role model. For instance, they try to imitate dress code, walking style, intonation and so on. Teachers guide them and teach them towards the desirable behavior in the society, like helping mentality, respect to others, time management, and so forth. These important qualities make them a good human being.

However, technologies are inevitable for the betterment of our life. Computer and the Internet bring information about anything under the world in our finger tips. It is a good academic tool for students as well as teachers. To teach a large number of students over head projectors, C.D players, slides and so on, are very much helpful. It gives comfort and convenience to both teachers and pupils. At the same time, the instruction and inspiration of a person called teacher is essential to help the students to use these technologies effectively. Otherwise, students needed high determination and self-motivation, which is difficult to see in pupils, especially, young children.

To conclude, technologies are beneficial to teach a large number of students. But, itself alone is not sufficient for the same. The presence of a teacher, is demanding for effective teaching and learning process. If we are able to mix these two, in a good way, it will give better results than using alone.

Between 1996 and 2002, London house prices jumped to around 12% above the 1989 average. Homebuyers in New York also had to pay significantly more, with prices rising to 5% above the 1989 average, but homes in Tokyo remained cheaper than they were in 1989.
